Question types
SurveyPlanet offers a wide variety of question types for you to choose from. Check out this survey to see an example of each question type. Select each of the question types below to find out more:
- Multiple Choice Question: Participants choose from a list of predefined answers. Supports single or multiple selections, random ordering, a write-in option, and multiple column layouts.
- Essay Question: Participants enter a free-form, long-form text response. You can set minimum and maximum character limits.
- Rating Question: A multiple choice question where each answer has a hidden numerical value. Useful for quantifying opinions; results can be summed and averaged. Includes built-in templates for common scales like Agree/Disagree and Satisfaction.
- Scale Question: Participants pick a single number on a numeric scale between a minimum and maximum value you define. Good for measuring frequency or likelihood.
- Form Question: Collects structured data from participants using multiple labeled input fields (for example, Name, Email). Each field can have its own validation rule.
- Scoring Question: Participants assign a numeric score to each item in a list (similar to a matrix). You set the score range and can require unique scores per row to force ranking.
- Range Question: Participants drag a slider to select a value within a numeric range you define. Best for capturing rough estimates or approximate answers.
- Date / Time Question: Participants enter a date, a time, or both. Supports a “Set Current Date/Time” shortcut to auto-fill the current moment.
- Image Choice Question: Like multiple choice but uses images instead of text as the answer options. Supports single or multiple selections, random ordering, and caption hiding. Available to Pro users.
